Overview:   City Results

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has been entrusted with the task of laying down the standards of quality of service to be provided by the service providers and ensuring its enforcement; and also TRAI is responsible for conducting the periodical audit of such services provided by the service providers so as to protect the interest of the consumers of telecommunications service.

TRAI is regularly monitoring the performance of Telecom Service Providers (TSP) against the benchmarks for the various Quality of Service (QoS) parameters laid down by the Authority. TSPs submit Performance Monitoring Reports to TRAI every quarter. TRAI also undertakes audit and assessment of Quality of Service through independent agencies to verify the Quality of Service claimed. The Audit agencies conduct sample ‘Drive tests’ across various cities in the country as part of audit and assessment of the TSPs’ performance.

In view of complaints on call drops and other network quality issues, on behalf of TRAI, an Independent Drive Test (IDT) was conducted by PhiMetrics Technologies Pvt. Ltd. from 1st Aug to 5th Aug 2017 covering various locations in Jodhpur City & surrounding region. The performance of Aircel, Airtel, Idea, Tata, BSNL, Tata, RCOM, Vodafone, MTS and Jio was monitored across various technologies (2G, 3G, 4G and CDMA). The drive test route was defined on the basis of several factors that include - areas from where call drop complaints are commonly received; areas of heavy usage; residential areas away from arterial roads; office areas; areas where previous Drive tests showed network issues; etc.The test results obtained from these drive tests were utilized to assess the network quality for Voice and Data services in terms of
Voice: Coverage; Quality; Call Setup Success Rate; Drop Call Rate; Block Call Rate, Handover Success Rate.

Drive Route Details for Jodhpur:

Independent Drive test was conducted for a period of 5 days from 1st Aug to 5th Aug 2017 in Jodhpur city & surrounding areas from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Calls were made for 90 sec duration with wait time of 10 sec between calls in all technologies.

Voice Tests: The drive test covered an area of approximately 610 km over a period of 4 days from 1st to 5th Aug-17. ~750 calls were made for each of the 16 networks: seven 2G (Lock Mode) networks, six 3G (Dual Mode) networks, two CDMA and 1 VoLTE network covering 9 unique TSPs.Data Tests: Data Tests were performed at static locations for 1 day on 4th Aug; seven 2G (Lock mode) networks, six 3G (Dual mode) networks, two CDMA and five 4G (Free mode) networks covering 9 unique TSPs were tested.

Drive Route Details for Amritsar:

Independent Drive test was conducted for a period of 4 days from 21st Aug to 24th Aug 2017 in Amritsar city & surrounding areas from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Calls were made for 90 sec duration with wait time of 10 sec between calls in all technologies.

Voice Tests:: The drive test covered a drive route of approximately 600 KMs over a period of 4 days from 21st to 24th Aug 17. Approximately 850 calls were made for each of the 15 networks: seven 2G networks, seven 3G networks, one CDMA and 1 VoLTE network covering 8 unique TSPs.


* In case of multiple call failure in similar geo location in given period of 60sec has been counted as one call failure

Data Tests: Data Tests were not performed due to suspension of internet services in Punjab by order of Government of India.


* For Voice and Data KPI’s, 2G measurement is done with UE locked on 2G, 3G measurement is done with UE in Dual mode (2G & 3G) and 4G measurement is done with UE in Free Mode.

.* 3G KPI’s which is calculated from UE in Dual Mode (2G & 3G) includes samples and events of 2G.

.* 4G KPI’s which is calculated from the UE in Free Mode included samples and events of 2G & 3G.

Drive Route Details for Pune:

Independent Drive test was conducted for a period of 5 days from 11th Sep to 15th Sep 2017 in Pune city & surrounding areas from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Calls were made for 90 sec duration with wait time of 10 sec between calls in all technologies.

Voice Tests:: The drive test covered a drive route of approximately 675 KMs over a period of 4 days from 11th to 13th and on 15th Sep 17. Approximately 1150 calls were made for each of the 16 networks: eight 2G (Lock Mode) networks, six 3G (Dual mode)networks, one CDMA and 1 VoLTE network covering 9 unique TSPs.


* In case of multiple call failure in similar geo location in given period of 60sec has been counted as one call failure.

Data Tests: Data Tests were performed at 4 static locations for 1 day on 14th Sep; eight 2G (Lock mode) networks, six 3G (Dual mode) networks, one CDMA and six 4G (Free mode) networks covering 9 unique TSPs were tested.


* For Voice and Data KPI’s, 2G measurement is done with UE locked on 2G, 3G measurement is done with UE in Dual mode (2G & 3G) and 4G measurement is done with UE in Free Mode.

* 3G KPI’s which is calculated from UE in Dual Mode (2G & 3G) includes samples and events of 2G.

* 4G KPI’s which is calculated from the UE in Free Mode included samples and events of 2G & 3G.

Voice Tests: The drive test covered a drive route of approximately 635 KMs over a period of 4 days from 7th to 10th Aug-17. Approximately 920 calls were made for each of the 14 networks: six 2G networks, five 3G networks, two CDMA and one VoLTE network covering 8 unique TSPs.
* In case of multiple call failure in similar geo location in given period of 60sec has been counted as one call failure

Data Tests: Data Tests were performed at 5 static locations for 1 day on 11th Aug; six 2G (Lock mode) networks, five 3G (Dual mode) networks, two CDMA and five 4G (Free mode) networks covering 8 unique TSPs were tested.
Outlier values are discarded to calculate the below KPI’s.
* For Voice and Data KPI’s, 2G measurement is done with UE locked on 2G, 3G measurement is done with UE in Dual mode (2G & 3G) and 4G measurement is done with UE in Free Mode.
* 3G KPI’s which is calculated from UE in Dual Mode (2G & 3G) includes samples and events of 2G.

Voice Tests:: The drive test covered a drive route of approximately 310KMs over a period of 2 days Aug 30th and 1st Sep 17. Approximately 550 calls were made for each of the 15 networks: seven 2G networks, six 3G networks, CDMA and 1 VoLTE network covering 7 unique TSPs.

Independent Drive test was conducted for a period of 5 days from 18th Sep to 22nd Sep 2017 in Asansol city & surrounding areas from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Calls were made for 90 sec duration with wait time of 10 sec between calls in all technologies.

Voice Tests: The drive test covered a drive route of approximately 620 KMs over a period of 5 days from 18th to 22th Sep 2017. Approximately 1100 calls were made for each of the 16 networks: seven 2G networks, six 3G networks, two CDMA and one VoLTE network covering 9 unique TSPs.
* * In case of multiple call failure in similar geo location in given period of 60sec has been counted as one call failure

Data Tests: Data Tests were performed at 6 static locations for 1 days on 21st Sep; seven 2G (Lock mode) networks, six 3G (Dual mode) networks, two CDMA and four 4G (Free mode) networks covering 9 unique TSPs were tested. *Outlier values are discarded to calculate the below KPI’s
* For Voice and Data KPI’s, 2G measurement is done with UE locked on 2G, 3G measurement is done with UE in Dual mode (2G & 3G) and 4G measurement is done with UE in Free Mode.

For the purpose of these tests, 2G and 2G + 3G Mode (Auto) was used. The test results obtained from these drive tests were conducted to assess the network condition more specifically in terms of Radio Frequency (RF) Coverage; Rx Quality; Call Setup Success Rate; Call Drop Rate; Blocked Calls and Carrier to Interference ratio.

Drive Route Details for Amritsar:

Independent Drive test was conducted in Amritsar & surrounding areas from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM from 18th to 19th of Aug 2016. The drive test covered an area of approximately 300 km over a period of 2 days. A total of ~2900 calls were made for seven 2G networks, four 3G networks and one CDMA networks covering 8 operators. Independent Drive test was conducted in Hyderabad & surrounding areas from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM from 5th to 7th of May 2016. The drive test covered an area of approximately 300 km over a period of 3 days. A Total of ~7450 calls were made for eight 2G networks, four 3G networks and two CDMA networks covering 9 operators.

Overview:

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has been entrusted with the task of laying down the standards of quality of service to be provided by the service providers and ensuring that the quality of service is provided as per norms; and also TRAI is responsible for conducting the periodical audit of such services provided by the service providers so as to protect the interest of the consumers of telecommunications service.

TRAI is regularly monitoring the performance of Telecom Service Providers (TSP) against the benchmarks for the various Quality of Service (QoS) parameters laid down by the Authority. TSPs submit Performance Monitoring Reports to TRAI every quarter. TRAI also undertakes audit and assessment of Quality of Service through independent agencies to verify the Quality of Service claimed. The Audit agencies conduct sample ‘Drive tests’ across various cities all over the country as part of audit and assessment of the TSPs’ performance.

In view of complaints on call drops and other network issues, on behalf of TRAI, an Independent Drive Test (IDT) was conducted from 3rd May 2016 to 5th May 2016 covering various locations in North Bhopal, South Bhopal, Central Bhopal and West Bhopal. The performance of Airtel, BSNL, Idea, Vodafone, Reliance, Tata, Videocon was monitored across various technologies (2G, 3G and CDMA). The drive test route was defined on the basis of several factors that include - areas from where call drop complaints are commonly received; areas of heavy usage; residential areas away from arterial roads; office areas; areas where previous Drive tests showed network issues; etc.

For the purpose of these tests, 2G + 3G Mode (Auto) was used. The test results obtained from these drive tests were conducted to assess the network condition more specifically in terms of Radio Frequency (RF) Coverage; Rx Quality; Call Setup Success Rate; Call Drop Rate; Blocked Calls and Carrier to Interference ratio.

Drive Route Details for Bhopal Area:

Independent Drive test was conducted in Bhopal area from 9:00 AM to 9:PM from 3rd to 5th of May 2016. The total drive test covered in Bhopal area was approximately 340 km over a period of 3 days. Total of ~4488 calls were made for seven 2G networks, five 3G networks and two CDMA networks covering seven operators. Roads and Areas covered in Bhopal is shown in the below map.

Drive Route Details For Mumbai Area:

Independent Drive test was conducted in Mumbai area from 9:00 AM to 9:PM from 10th to 13th of May 2016. The total drive test covered in Mumbai area was approximately 580 km over a period of 4 days. Total of ~9657 calls were made for 7 2G networks, 3 3G networks and 2 CDMA networks covering 7 operators. Roads and Areas covered in Mumbai is shown in the below map.

The test results obtained from these drive tests were conducted to assess the network condition more specifically in terms of Radio Frequency (RF) Coverage; Rx Quality; Call Setup Success Rate; Call Drop Rate; Blocked Calls and Carrier to Interference ratio.

Drive Route Details For Darjeeling Area:

Independent Drive test was conducted in Darjeeling area from 9:00 AM to 9:PM from 25th to 27th of May 2016. The total drive test covered in Darjeeling area was approximately 302 km over a period of 3 days. Total of 3008 calls were made for five 2G networks, four 3G networks and one CDMA networks covering Six operators. Roads and Areas covered in Darjeeling & Sikkim is shown in the below map.

Overview:

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has been entrusted with the task of laying down the standards of quality of service to be provided by the service providers and ensuring its enforcement; and also TRAI is responsible for conducting the periodical audit of such services provided by the service providers so as to protect the interest of the consumers of telecommunications service.

TRAI is regularly monitoring the performance of Telecom Service Providers (TSP) against the benchmarks for the various Quality of Service (QoS) parameters laid down by the Authority. TSPs submit Performance Monitoring Reports to TRAI every quarter. TRAI also undertakes audit and assessment of Quality of Service through independent agencies to verify the Quality of Service claimed. The Audit agencies conduct sample ‘Drive tests’ across various cities in the country as part of audit and assessment of the TSPs’ performance.

In view of complaints on call drops and other network quality issues, on behalf of TRAI, an Independent Drive Test (IDT) was conducted on 1st to 3rd of June 2016 covering various locations in Trivandrum covered Kazhakkottam, Anad, Pottam, Attingal & etc.The performance of Airtel, Aircel, Idea, Vodafone, RCOM, DoCoMo, BSNL, Reliance CDMA, TATA CDMA, MTS CDMA was monitored across various technologies (2G, 3G and CDMA). The drive test route was defined on the basis of several factors that include - areas from where call drop complaints are commonly received; areas of heavy usage; residential areas away from arterial roads; office areas; areas where previous Drive tests showed network issues; etc.

Independent Drive test was conducted in Trivandrum & surrounding areas from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM on 1st to 3rd of June 2016 The drive test covered an area of approximately 350 km over a period of 3 days. A Total of ~6900 calls were made for seven 2G networks, five 3G networks and three CDMA networks covering 8 operators. Roads and Areas covered in Trivandrum is shown in the below map.
